Jim Gottron can tickle the ivories with the best of them, but he can also pull strings — about 230 of them, depending on the model — to keep pianos sounding their best for some of the top musicians in the nation. Still tuning and playing and repairing pianos and jamming with his many friends, Gottron, 86, is a regular fixture in Toledo’s music scene, performing regularly at the Toledo Club and many other venues.
And he’s worked for other luminaries in California, Las Vegas, Toledo and its environs, and elsewhere, including Liberace, Stevie Wonder, Oscar Peterson, Stanley Cowell, Count Basie, and Larry Fuller.
